As early as the 1950s, surfers — looking to replicate the feeling of surfing on land — began using homemade skateboards to ride in empty pools (swimming pools) during bad weather.
With our skate elements (modules), we can create both closed skate bowls/pools (usually in-ground) and open skate bowls/pools (usually above-ground). These skate bowls/pools consist of a flat horizontal surface at the bottom (flat), bordered by a curved surface (transition) along the sides. A coping tube is positioned along the transition and the upper platform.
Our concrete skate elements (modules) allow for the creation of virtually unlimited shapes and sizes of skate bowls/pools. The standard module heights for our skate bowls/pools are 98 and 150 cm.
Standard skate bowls/pools are enclosed and typically installed in-ground. They can vary widely in size, shape, and depth. Using our modular skate elements, you can design skate bowls/pools in countless configurations with standard depths of 98 and 150 cm.
The skate elements of enclosed skate bowls/pools are placed on separate foundations and concreted into position. The flat areas of enclosed skate bowls/pools must be equipped with at least one drainage point — ideally with a secondary safety drain.
OPEN SKATE-BOWLS / POOLS
Open skate bowls/pools (or open skate bowls/pools) are typically above-ground structures that are open on at least one side, providing direct access to the lower flat area.
This design allows them to function not only as a bowl but also similarly to elements found on a street course.
Above-ground open skate bowls/pools generally require platform tables for the upper level, and for heights of 1.00 m or more, a fall protection system (railing) must be installed. These bowls/pools are usually placed directly on the surface — without the need for foundations — and are installed using transition plates.
PLANNING SKATEBOWL AND SKATEPOOLS
Our modular concrete skate elements allow you to create skate bowls/pools in virtually unlimited shapes and sizes.
Compared to cast-in-place concrete, our modular system offers significant advantages: improved quality control (including consistent concrete thickness, reinforcement, and joint precision), faster installation, greater weather independence, and often lower overall costs.
However, careful and thorough planning of the facility is essential.
